The word Google is now becoming synonymous to innovation. There is something new for the GMail users – Tasks.  Like Microsoft Outlook, you can set tasks, its due date and a short description.

But what’s new in it? Hmmm.. Yes, the new feature is that you can have multiple Task Lists for one user and several tasks within it.  What more – these tasks pop-up the similar way as the chat window in Gmail does.  That means you don’t need any Smart Client Application to synchronize your tasks – you can view them, change them, mark them as complete over web itself.  Isn’t that alluring?

This Task Management activity can also be done on your handheld devices. Configure your handheld to mail.google.com/tasks and voila!  You are all ready to use this application.

Who says we have innovated enough, I think there is much more to evolve and innovate till giants like Microsoft and Google are there!

Voila! Gmail, Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Talk are now no more ‘Beta.’  This move (as Reuters, PCWorld and other publications speculate) is to attract newer businesses from the market.  But is there any real-change in the newer non-Beta version of these applications? Or it is just another way of branding?

Changes

There definitely are! Google has added new features like offline access to mails, calendars and its Google Apps is ready to conquer the Blackberry handhelds and Microsoft Outlook!  The premium edition of Google Apps is much cheaper ($50, per user, per annum) that the other products available in market. 

Branding

Yes, this step makes them more vibrant against their competitor Microsoft (though Google still stands way back with just Microsoft having a 50% share in email market.)  But with Google Apps, enterprises are expected to save over 50% of their costs compared to other email solutions.

What’s next?

Google OS, likely to named as Chrome OS, is expected to be released in the mid of the next year.  While Speed, simplicity and security remain the key aspects of Chrome OS, lightweight will not be compromised either.  Google targets redesigning the security to avoid malware, viruses and regular security updates (most seen in Microsoft OS.)
